About Will Benson A.K.A Mojo-Zen

Mojo-Zen is the collected writings images and films of me, Will Benson.

As a child my days were spent exploring my own back garden, dressed head to toe in my 'all-in-one' water-proof jacket and trousers, snorkel mask over my eyes, embarking on adventures to catch insects and work out which flowers tasted the best.

By the time I was at school I had developed my passion for nature, and the idea of a life spent travelling the world was becoming ever appealing. Before my A-levels, whilst my friends headed off to the bright lights of Newquay for the 'rite of passage' end of high school holiday, I joined an expedition to Nicaragua and Costa Rica....and I never looked back.

This was my first real taste of travel: The smell of tropical rain forests, the intrigue of foreign markets where energetic women sell piles of spices and bizarre animals, the romance of long dusty roads that stretch on to the horizon, vast volcanic landscapes, jungle-covered mountains, deep valleys and the winding streets of towns seemingly trapped in another age.

Ever since that first trip to Central America, I made a promise to try and always find a way to explore the world in all its glory, whatever I'm doing. If there is ever an opportunity to fill my bag with camera, note book and a map, and set of to foreign lands, I would take it.

From the shores of Lake Victoria to the mountains of Borneo, my plan has worked so far. Documenting my journeys as I go, I've filled numerous journals, have taken thousands of pictures and I am now building up many hours of film footage as well.

Before I began university I used the excuse of a 'gap-year' to head off to Tanzania. Then, whilst at university in Southampton, where I studied Zoology, I used the excuse of scientific research to head off to Uganda. I currently live and work in London, working on various scientific and factual documentaries for TV, and have recently returned from my latest adventure, filming the wildlife of Zambia's South Luangwa National Park.

Where next!?

Who knows...

See you on the road, fellow traveller!
